Description
This Collings 290 is in their classic Vintage White Finish, a great modern take on a classic design idea.
Named for the scenic 290 highway that winds past the Collings shop though the Texas Hill Country, the Collings 290 is a modern day tribute to the original working man’s rock’n roll guitar. A solid mahogany body and neck are complimented by two Lollar Soap Bar P90 pickups for a tone that shows off the amazing harmonic range and dynamics of this often underrated configuration.
Premium Tonewoods
Each Collings 290 is constructed of solid Honduran mahogany that is acquired, acclimated, and hand selected for density and acoustical response by master luthiers at Collings’s shop in Austin.
Electronics
The Soapbar P90 has a fat and round bass response with a smoother treble than a traditional P90. This is a hugely versatile pickup with lots of vintage-style warmth.
Playability
A combination of exacting PLEK machine leveling and hand fret dressing ensures consistently excellent playability and a silky fret feel.
Finish
By meticulously hand-sanding between coats, our nitrocellulose lacquer finishes measure between .005” and .007” in final thickness, maximizing acoustic response while providing excellent protection and aesthetics.
Hardware
Collings electrics feature Gotoh SG301 tuners and Kluson tune-o-matic bridges and stop tailpieces.
Custom Trim
Collings craft their pickguard and peghead materials in house, providing custom aesthetics like their etched pearloid peghead veneer, Highway 290 truss cover graphic and many more.
